SEO for Applications on the Horizon?

November 30, 2007

GoogleYet to be confirmed, GigaOM revealed details on Facebook’s intention to open its application base to make them indexable by search engines like Google. The change will only affect applications that do not require Facebook users to log into them before they can be used.

The implications are significant for independent developers. Their applications can be designed to be SEO-friendly, targeting current and potential Facebook users from sources previously ignored. Furthermore, because Facebook is one of the most visited websites online with a high PageRank, applications may receive an automatic boost in search rankings simply for being located within the facebook.com domain.
