Facebook Targeting News Feed Spam
October 31, 2007
Facebook announced yesterday the availability of a new feature relating to the News Feed. The change includes a new “I didn’t do this” button available to members when hiding stories in the Mini-Feed on their profiles. In addition to allowing users to provide feedback, whenever a user chooses the new “I didn’t do this” option, they will be presented with a second dialog that provides the option of removing the application altogether.
Like the Sent Notifications change, this change is intended to provide users more control over what applications share on their behalf. By allowing users to provide feedback on stories published about them, Facebook hopes to reduce application spam and improve the overall user experience.
In addition, application feedback will be used by Facebook to help determine the weighting of application-published stories in the News Feed.
