Sent Notifications Visibility to Increase Application Transparency
October 20, 2007
Facebook announced last night that the notifications page will be updated this week to allow users to see what notifications have been sent on their behalf by installed applications.
Previously, the only way to avoid application notifications from friends was to delete the friend from one’s Facebook account. As most users do not consider this an option — and rightfully so since Facebook is intended to represent one’s social network — overuse of notifications has continued to pester these users.
This change is intended to provide greater transparency such that users can decide if their installed applications are being too obtrusive and bothersome to their friends. As a result, users will be able to make more educated decisions on whether or not they want to leave an application installed or contact a developer to request a change to their application with regards to notifications.
Sent notifications will become available on Thursday, October 25.
