Facebook Daily Page Views to Rival MySpace
October 12, 2007
According to a recent study performed by Compete.com, Facebook is now ranked third in page views within the U.S. while MySpace is down almost 20%. The study’s numbers reveal that Facebook has not only grown in its member base, but it has also increased in member engagement with the site.

Compete has attributed the numbers to the following notable interpretations. First, MySpace has been the highest ranking site on the Web since early 2006 with people averaging 18 visits per month at 26 minutes per visit. Facebook has experienced slightly fewer visits at 14 per month with an average stay of 14 minutes.
Receiving 15.7 billion Web page requests in August places Facebook comfortably into third place with regards to page views. Furthermore, the numbers provided demonstrate the success to date of the Facebook Platform. Since its launch, Compete.com reports that Facebook attention has grown over 50% with visitors frequenting the site more often in August than any other recent month.
In breaking down the numbers further, Compete.com determined that 14 million people interacted with Facebook applications during the month of August. With over 26 million active members in all, more than 50% of the member base is engaging in Facebook application usage.
The following diagram provides a detailed breakdown of how members spend their time within the social networking site. Larger circles represent greater usage as a percentage of total Facebook visitors, and deeper shades of blue represent more intense utilization with regards to visits per month and time per visit.

On top of 21 of the 22 million new members checking at least one profile (theirs or a friend’s) throughout the course of the month, Compete.com draws the following interesting results.
- 14 million people interacted with Facebook Applications in August.
- Applications are also highly engaging; capturing more time per session than any other activity on the site.
- Over 16 Million people browsed photos in August. On average, they viewed nearly 150 per month.
- Only 80,000 (or .3% of total active members) “poked” someone in August.
In all, these stats can only bode well for Facebook Platform developers. The plethora of members offers strong potential for any new application, and the user base is growing at an exponential rate.
